Kapa3 \u2013 Cancer Guidance Centre is strengthening its engagement in the European dialogue on digital health and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in cancer care through its participation in the Expert Group of the European PATH \u2013 Patient AI Treatment Hub project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Participation in the PATH Expert Group creates an important opportunity to bring Kapa3\u2019s field experience, the needs of cancer patients and caregivers, and the perspective of civil society into European discussions on the design and implementation of emerging digital health technologies.<\/p>\n PATH \u2013 Patient AI Treatment Hub<\/strong> is a European Research and Innovation project that officially launched in February 2026, bringing together 23 partners from 10 European countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The project is funded by the Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU)<\/strong> under Horizon Europe.<\/p>\n PATH aims to contribute to the transformation of cancer care through the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence and the secure use and exchange of health data.<\/p>\n The project explores how AI-based tools can be safely integrated into clinical workflows to support earlier detection, diagnosis, treatment and improved long-term patient outcomes. At the same time, PATH is developing a federated, privacy-preserving infrastructure<\/strong> designed to enable the use and exchange of health data while protecting patient privacy.<\/p>\n At the heart of the project is the development of an AI-powered platform<\/strong> designed to support healthcare professionals in making more accurate and personalised decisions.<\/p>\n PATH solutions will be evaluated through pilot activities across Europe, examining their clinical value, effectiveness and potential for meaningful integration into real-world healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n Kapa3 will contribute to the PATH Project Expert Group in an independent expert capacity<\/strong>, providing insight, feedback and field-based expertise as the project\u2019s activities evolve.<\/p>\n This participation is particularly important to us because it creates a direct pathway for the everyday experiences of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers to inform the design of innovation.<\/p>\n Kapa3\u2019s contribution will focus particularly on:<\/p>\n This engagement builds on Kapa3\u2019s ongoing work in digital health, patient navigation and responsible innovation, including initiatives such as the Myrto AI Health Innovation Lab<\/strong>, the co-design and development of Myrto \u2013 Digital Health and Social Rights Navigator<\/strong>, our work on access to rights and services for people with disabilities, and our participation in European initiatives such as MELODIC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Artificial Intelligence is creating important new opportunities in cancer care.<\/p>\n At the same time, it raises critical questions around trust, transparency, safety, equitable access and the way new technologies are integrated into people\u2019s everyday lives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n For Kapa3, the design of a digital health solution cannot begin solely with the question of what is technologically possible.<\/p>\n It must also begin by asking:<\/p>\n What does the patient actually need?<\/strong><\/p>\n Can patients understand the information they receive?<\/p>\n Can they trust the system?<\/p>\n Do they know where the information comes from?<\/p>\n Is appropriate human oversight available when needed?<\/p>\n Could digital inequalities create new inequalities in health?<\/p>\n And ultimately, does innovation genuinely improve the patient experience and care pathway?<\/p>\n We believe these questions must be an integral part of every discussion about Artificial Intelligence in healthcare.<\/p>\n Kapa3\u2019s participation in the PATH Expert Group is closely aligned with the strategic direction we have already developed through Myrto \u2013 Digital Health and Social Rights Navigator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Myrto is being developed as a digital social-navigation system designed to transform fragmented and often complex information about rights, benefits and administrative procedures into clear, structured and evidence-based guidance for patients and caregivers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Its design places particular emphasis on accuracy, evidence, source transparency and human oversight.<\/p>\n PATH and Myrto are distinct initiatives serving different purposes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n They nevertheless meet around one fundamental principle:<\/p>\n For Kapa3, participation in the PATH Expert Group therefore creates a two-way pathway for knowledge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n We bring our experience from the Greek patient-support and cancer-care landscape into the European dialogue, while at the same time gaining access to knowledge, methodologies and good practices that can strengthen the way we design and develop our own services.<\/p>\n The digital transformation of healthcare is not simply about generating more data, developing more algorithms or creating more applications.<\/p>\n For a person facing cancer, information becomes valuable when it can be translated into a meaningful next step<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Technology becomes valuable when it reduces complexity rather than adding to it.<\/p>\n And Artificial Intelligence becomes valuable when it strengthens \u2014 rather than replaces \u2014 human care, professional judgement and the ability of patients to participate meaningfully in decisions about their own health and lives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The inaugural meeting of the PATH Expert Group will take place on 22 September 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The meeting will introduce the project and its planned activities, gather feedback and perspectives from the experts, and help shape the Expert Group\u2019s next steps.<\/p>\n Kapa3 will continue to follow and share key developments arising from its participation in the Expert Group, with particular emphasis on knowledge and practices that can contribute to safer, fairer, more inclusive and human-centred digital cancer care<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Because for us, innovation gains real value when it is designed with the people it is meant to serve<\/strong>.<\/p>\nWhat is PATH \u2013 Patient AI Treatment Hub?<\/h2>\n
