The United Nations established this day to strengthen global commitment so that <strong data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"652\">all people, everywhere, can access the health services they need without financial hardship<\/strong>. (<a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/campaigns\/universal-health-coverage-day\/2025\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"749\">WHO<\/a>)<\/p>\n<h6 data-start=\"236\" data-end=\"752\">Statistics<\/h6>\n<p data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"1355\">Universal health coverage is not just a goal. It is a central element of the <strong data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"887\">United Nations\u00a0 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030<\/strong>. Despite progress in recent decades, the reality remains challenging. Approximately <strong data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"1051\">4.6 billion people worldwide still lack access to essential health services. <\/strong>At the same time<strong data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"1051\">, <\/strong><strong data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1114\">2.1 billion face financial hardship in accessing care. <\/strong>Finally <strong data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1114\">1<\/strong><strong data-start=\"1121\" data-end=\"1183\">.6 billion pushed into poverty due to health expenditures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1357\" data-end=\"1870\">These statistics demonstrate that universal coverage remains <strong data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1445\">far from fully achieved<\/strong>, with significant <strong data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1519\">inequalities between countries and within societies<\/strong>: poorer populations, rural residents, people with lower education, and other vulnerable groups face much greater barriers to healthcare. (<a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/06-12-2025-most-countries-make-progress-towards-universal-health-coverage-but-major-challenges-remain-who-world-bank-report-finds?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1658\" data-end=\"1867\">WHO \u2013 World Bank Report<\/a>)<\/p>\n<h6 data-start=\"1357\" data-end=\"1870\">Situation in Greece<\/h6>\n<p data-start=\"1872\" data-end=\"2359\">In <strong data-start=\"1875\" data-end=\"1885\">Greece<\/strong>, although universal coverage exists in principle through the National Health System, access to care is <strong data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2025\">not always equitable or complete<\/strong>. Only a small percentage of citizens report high satisfaction with service availability, while <strong data-start=\"2121\" data-end=\"2175\">around 12.1% of people have unmet healthcare needs<\/strong>, a rate significantly higher than the OECD average. (<a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/en\/publications\/health-at-a-glance-2025_15a55280-en\/greece_8b1399f8-en.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2229\" data-end=\"2356\">OECD<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2788\">Out-of-pocket healthcare expenses particularly affect lower-income households. Nearly nearly <strong data-start=\"2452\" data-end=\"2509\">10% of households facing catastrophic health spending<\/strong>, forcing families to sacrifice essentials such as food or housing. (<a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/greece\/news\/item\/04-11-2025-out-of-pocket-payments-for-health-care-in-greece-hit-low-income-households-the-hardest--new-who-report-finds?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2578\" data-end=\"2785\">WHO \u2013 Health Care Greece<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2790\" data-end=\"3188\">These inequalities are not just numbers\u2014they have <strong data-start=\"2840\" data-end=\"2881\">real consequences for quality of life<\/strong>. For <strong data-start=\"2887\" data-end=\"2906\">cancer patients<\/strong>, universal coverage means timely diagnosis, access to treatments, continuous monitoring, psychosocial support, and palliative care. Lack of comprehensive, accessible care can worsen disease outcomes and increase psychological and financial burden for patients and their families.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3190\" data-end=\"3471\">At <strong data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3202\">Kapa3<\/strong>, we strive to ensure that no cancer patient or their loved ones feel alone. Through educational initiatives, experiential programs, psychosocial support, and guidance materials, we advocate for <strong data-start=\"3397\" data-end=\"3468\">healthcare access that respects human dignity, life, and real needs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3473\" data-end=\"3676\"><strong data-start=\"3473\" data-end=\"3632\">Universal Health Coverage Day is not just a date\u2014it is a call to action for broader access, reduced inequalities, and genuine support for all<\/strong>.
