In the aftermath of World War II, states committed to protecting the human rights of all people \u2014 not only civil and political rights, but also social rights such as the right to health.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"941\"><strong data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"941\">The Right to Health \u2014 Why It Matters for People Living with Cancer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"943\" data-end=\"1125\">The right to health is enshrined in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration and forms a cornerstone of human dignity.<br data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1063\" \/>According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it includes:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1286\">\n<li data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1164\">\n<p data-start=\"1129\" data-end=\"1164\">access to quality health services<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1202\">\n<p data-start=\"1167\" data-end=\"1202\">a safe and supportive environment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1243\">\n<p data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1243\">clear, accessible health information<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1286\">\n<p data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1286\">equal treatment without discrimination<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1288\" data-end=\"1474\">For people living with cancer, this right translates into timely diagnosis, dignified care, psychosocial support, and information that is understandable and tailored to their real needs.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1476\" data-end=\"1531\"><strong data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1531\">Cancer Statistics: The Global Picture and Greece<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1631\">According to the latest estimates from the I<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/health\/who-warns-global-cancer-burden-growing-with-77-spike-in-cases-expected-by-2050\/3125409\">nternational Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC\/WHO):<\/a><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1927\">\n<li data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1717\">\n<p data-start=\"1635\" data-end=\"1717\">In 2022, there were approximately <strong data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1704\">20 million new cancer diagnoses<\/strong> worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1718\" data-end=\"1768\">\n<p data-start=\"1720\" data-end=\"1768\">Cancer-related deaths reached <strong data-start=\"1750\" data-end=\"1765\">9.7 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1769\" data-end=\"1927\">\n<p data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"1927\">IARC projects that by 2050, global cancer cases could increase by <strong data-start=\"1837\" data-end=\"1850\">up to 77%<\/strong>, unless prevention, equitable access and high-quality care are strengthened.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"1953\"><strong data-start=\"1933\" data-end=\"1953\">Cancer in Greece<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1955\" data-end=\"1987\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/content\/dam\/oecd\/el\/publications\/reports\/2025\/02\/eu-country-cancer-profile-greece-2025_a45fb957\/1d5df158-el.pdf\">Recent data for Greece indicate<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2465\">\n<li data-start=\"1989\" data-end=\"2042\">\n<p data-start=\"1991\" data-end=\"2042\">An estimated <strong data-start=\"2004\" data-end=\"2031\">63,176 new cancer cases<\/strong> in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2160\">\n<p data-start=\"2045\" data-end=\"2160\">An age-standardised incidence rate of <strong data-start=\"2083\" data-end=\"2123\">529 new diagnoses per 100,000 people<\/strong>, slightly below the EU-27 average.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2161\" data-end=\"2263\">\n<p data-start=\"2163\" data-end=\"2263\">A mortality rate of <strong data-start=\"2183\" data-end=\"2216\">239 deaths per 100,000 people<\/strong> (2021), slightly above the European average.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2264\" data-end=\"2369\">\n<p data-start=\"2266\" data-end=\"2369\">The most common cancer types in Greece include breast, prostate, colorectal, lung and thyroid cancer.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2370\" data-end=\"2465\">\n<p data-start=\"2372\" data-end=\"2465\">Inequalities in access to early detection and modern treatments remain a significant concern.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"2467\" data-end=\"2498\"><strong data-start=\"2470\" data-end=\"2498\">Why These Numbers Matter<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2500\" data-end=\"2771\">Cancer does not affect \u201ca few.\u201d It is widespread \u2014 with thousands of new diagnoses every year. But outcomes are not equal for everyone. Many patients and caregivers face disparities in access to early diagnosis, quality care, reliable information, and continuous support.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2773\" data-end=\"2959\">In Greece, thousands of people confront daily barriers: delays, regional inequalities, lack of supportive services, overly complex medical information, or gaps in the continuity of care.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2961\" data-end=\"3062\">These realities make the right to health \u2014 especially in cancer care \u2014 a critical human rights issue.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3064\" data-end=\"3094\"><strong data-start=\"3067\" data-end=\"3094\">Our Commitment at Kapa3<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3238\">At Kapa3, we work to reduce health inequalities and ensure that every person living with cancer can access what they are entitled to.
